As many of my Facebook friends know, we had to put our most incredible English setter, Brodie, to sleep on October 9, 2025. A viciously fast cancer forced our hand. He wouild have been 10 in January, 2026.
As a friend in Maine, who has one of Brodie's littermate brothers said, Brodie was my "heart" dog. He truly lived his best life with Bridget and I at our place along the banks of the Miramichi River in New Brunswick. He pointed grouse, chased geese, investigated what was under every rock along our stretch of the river, and, as importantly to me as anything, shared many campfires with me.
He loved to just sit sometimes, watching over what I'm sure he considered his domain.
Please raise a glass to his memory. I have.
Gary
Sorry, Gary! We've had dogs in the past. Considered them "family members". (what's the average lifespan of that breed?)---Mike
ReplyDeleteMike, my setters have lived to 9, 10 (2 dogs) 15 and 17.
DeleteMy sincere condolences, Gary. I am sure Brodie had a wonderful life with you
ReplyDeleteThanks, I sure want to think he has a wonderful life with us!
DeleteHe was a happy, happy boy. Life was good for Mr Brodie. His days were filled with the things he loved. Not many dogs get to spend an evening around a campfire with their best Bud.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Danny.
DeleteThe gift we got being around "best friends" lives on with our memories
ReplyDeleteReally true, Bill! I remember Cinder fondly.
DeleteTHERE AIN'T NOTHING LIKE A GOOD DOG TO REMIND US THAT FRIENDSHIP AND HAVING THE SAME HOBBIES IS A GRAND COMBINATION. R.I.P. BRODIE.
ReplyDeleteVery, very true. Thank you.
DeleteGary, so sorry to read this. RIP Brodie.
ReplyDeleteHe was simply the best boy ever. Thanks.
DeleteI am very sorry to hear about your loss, you are both in my thoughts and I will raise a glass to his memory. I think you gave him a fantastic life.
ReplyDeleteThanks, John, that means everything.
DeleteGod made dogs and man with different life spans so their final gift to us was to teach us how to grieve for loved ones and go on.
ReplyDeleteA good thought, Harry, much appreciated. Hope all's well in Paducah.
DeleteSorry for your loss, Gary! It seems that little hurts more than losing a cherished companion! I will raise a glass to his memory while also thinking of you!
ReplyDeleteRupert
Thank you, Rupert. It never gets any easier.
ReplyDeleteSaddened to read this! You have many wonderful memories of Brodie, and I have a few too. Cherish them, I will.
ReplyDeleteCherish we shall!!
DeleteMy condolences Gary. Losing a good friend is never easy. RIP Bordie.
ReplyDeleteOf the setters that I've had to help leave the pain behind, Brodie was the hardest to let go. I hope he runs into Kate, Doc, Jim, Jack and Tucker in his travels. I hope I do, too.
DeleteGary- I’m terribly sorry to hear of the loss of Brodie. I’ll be sure to raise a glass for him tonight. -Alex
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Alex!
