Brodie

As many of my Facebook friends know, we had to put our most incredible English setter, Brodie, to sleep on October 9, 2025.  A viciously fast cancer forced our hand.  He wouild have been 10 in January, 2026.

As a friend in Maine, who has one of Brodie's littermate brothers said, Brodie was my "heart" dog.  He truly lived his best life with Bridget and I at our place along the banks of the Miramichi River in New Brunswick.   He pointed grouse, chased geese, investigated what was under every rock along our stretch of the river, and, as importantly to me as anything, shared many campfires with me.

He loved to just sit sometimes, watching over what I'm sure he considered his domain.

There is so much more to Brodie's story;  I'll share much of that in my next blog post about this season just past for us on the Miramichi.

Please raise a glass to his memory.  I have.
Gary

  1. Sorry, Gary! We've had dogs in the past. Considered them "family members". (what's the average lifespan of that breed?)---Mike

  3. He was a happy, happy boy. Life was good for Mr Brodie. His days were filled with the things he loved. Not many dogs get to spend an evening around a campfire with their best Bud.

  8. God made dogs and man with different life spans so their final gift to us was to teach us how to grieve for loved ones and go on.

    1. Of the setters that I've had to help leave the pain behind, Brodie was the hardest to let go. I hope he runs into Kate, Doc, Jim, Jack and Tucker in his travels. I hope I do, too.
